United Egg
United Egg Producers (UEP) is an alliance of five separate organizations providing services to the egg industry. These organizations are:
1. United Egg Producers.
2. UEA Further Processor Division.
3. UEA Allied Industry Division.
4. UEA Producer/Packer Division.
5. United States Egg Marketers (USEM).
Management for this alliance is provided by United Egg Producers.

The alliance also serves as the U.S. Egg Industry representative to:
• International Egg Commission (IEC).
• Project Food Land & People (FLP).
• Council on Agriculture Science and Technology (CAST).
• Animal Agricultural Alliance (AAA).

UEP's first organizational meeting was held in Chicago on November 12, 1968 at which time egg producers from across the U.S. recognized the need for a regional cooperative organization to address the needs of the industry. Membership is available to owners of breeder flocks, hatcheries, pullets growers, contract egg producers, and farm cooperatives that meet the requirement of owned or leased facilities.
In October 1998, the by-laws of United Egg Producers were amended thereby changing the organization to a direct member organization.
The industry leaders, with the foresight to see the future, felt United Egg Producers should undertake programs in the following areas:
Price Discovery.
Production and marketing information.
• Create a United Egg image of unified industry leadership.
Strong USDA relationship.
A Washington presence.
Support for strong industry promotion effort.
Through the years, producers have continually called upon UEP to help establish new programs and/or organizations, or support those that could improve their industry.
Some examples of United Egg's leadership include:
Helped establish the Egg Clearinghouse, Inc. (ECI) in 1970.
Drafted and guided through Congress the Egg Research & Consumer Act which provided AEB with industry wide ongoing funding.
Establishment of the Egg Nutrition Center.
• Created the United Egg Association (UEA), a trade association
to serve those of the egg industry not qualified for United Egg Producers membership
Development of Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Development of Food Safety Program.
• United Egg is governed by a board of directors of egg producers and has a membership base representing approximately 90% of all egg type chickens in the United States.
